Our PSW lab mirrors real work environments and features the same equipment you’ll use on the job. You’ll practise patient transfers, positioning and mobility support using walkers, canes, wheelchairs and hospital beds. You’ll also learn how to help clients with everyday needs such as bathing, dressing, meal preparation and medication reminders. You’ll gain a strong knowledge in hospice and palliative care, cognitive and mental health, brain injuries, anatomy, physiology and more.
Equally important, you’ll develop the compassion and communication skills to provide emotional support to clients and respite to their families while helping create a safe, comfortable environment in homes and long-term care facilities.
Put your training into action through clinical placements that include 100 hours in a community setting and 200 hours in a long-term care facility. To help you launch your career, OIHI offers career fairs, networking events, resume-writing assistance, interview preparation and one-on-one counselling.
You’re not just training for a job; you’re building a future.
Join OIHI’s NACC Personal Support Worker certificate program and experience the guidance, care and career support that will help you reach your academic and career goals.
